{"id":2121,"date":"2024-01-31T21:55:21","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T21:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dvoinc.com\/?p=2121"},"modified":"2024-05-08T21:26:19","modified_gmt":"2024-05-08T21:26:19","slug":"dvo-welcomes-calls-to-cut-new-york-methane-emissions-with-anaerobic-digestion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dvoinc.com\/pl\/dvo-welcomes-calls-to-cut-new-york-methane-emissions-with-anaerobic-digestion\/","title":{"rendered":"DVO z zadowoleniem przyjmuje apele o ograniczenie emisji metanu w Nowym Jorku dzi\u0119ki fermentacji beztlenowej"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/energy-vision.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/EV-NY-AD-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new report<\/a> suggests building more anaerobic digesters in New York could cut the state\u2019s methane emissions by 15%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to see more voices added to the growing chorus promoting the benefits of anaerobic digesters,\u201d says Steve Dvorak, president and founder of DVO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been designing and building digesters in New York for 15 years and look forward to helping more New York dairy farmers do their part to further reduce the state\u2019s methane emissions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-anaerobic-digesters-a-recognized-strategy\">Anaerobic digesters a \u2018recognized strategy\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the report, published by biomethane policy non-governmental organization (NGO) <a href=\"https:\/\/energy-vision.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Energy Vision<\/a>, methane accounts for 39% of New York\u2019s overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Furthermore, 34% of New York\u2019s methane emissions come from organic waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUsing anaerobic digesters is the one recognized strategy for capturing the methane-rich biogas from organic waste,\u201d the report reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the agricultural sector, building ~260 new anaerobic digesters could cut methane from dairy manure by 56.5%.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding digesters focused on processing other organic food waste and major wastewater plants brings the total number of digesters recommended in the report to roughly 300, capable of cutting New York\u2019s methane emissions by 15%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rng-to-displace-320-million-gallons-of-diesel\">RNG to displace 320 million gallons of diesel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The report estimates building that many digesters would create up to 8,000 jobs and attract around $3.4 billion in federal and private investment capital. The digesters would also generate enough net carbon-negative renewable natural gas (RNG) to displace 320 million gallons of diesel annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;To achieve New York&#8217;s climate goals, we need to make use of all of the forms of renewable energy available to us,&#8221; New York State Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/study-finds-nys-could-cut-methane-emissions-15-by-processing-organic-waste-in-anaerobic-digesters-302002361.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This useful report [shows we can] leverage existing waste streams [as] an alternative energy source.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-dvo-a-proven-leader-in-ny-dairy-digesters\">DVO: a proven leader in NY dairy digesters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/agstar\/livestock-anaerobic-digester-database\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data from the US EPA&#8217;s Agstar Database<\/a>, 32 of New York\u2019s roughly 200 currently operating digesters are located on or near dairy farms across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eight of the anaerobic digesters operating or under construction at New York dairies were designed and\/or built by DVO. Together, they can reduce emissions by around 140,000 MTCO2e\/yr \u2013 accounting for more than a third of the total emissions reduction attributed to the state\u2019s dairy-based digesters, according to the most recent figures available from the EPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most recent DVO-designed digester to start operations in New York is at family-owned Allen Farms, located near Scipio Center in the Finger Lakes region.
